Much of this website’s content is from the 1993 book by Karen Wonders: Habitat Dioramas: Illusions of Wilderness in Museums of Natural History. Here we look at how these illusionistic scenarios are not just windows onto scenes of magnificent wilderness; they are mirrors that reflect how human beings imagine themselves within the world of nature during a tumultuous century that spans from natural history to evolutionary biology to the current age of epic biodiversity loss. This website is a preview of a forthcoming book by Karen Wonders: Habitat Dioramas: Illusions of Nature in an Age of Extinction
